Being squashed sucks! but if you can get an underhook and start getting on your side, then this is a game-changer. In this video, Sophia shows you how to make proper frames to stop being squashed and to get an underhook, and set up some really effective escapes so you can get out of underneath side control.
Learning the fundamentals of passing is essential. Once you've nailed them then here are a few drills that will take you to the next level with your passing. Here you'll learn fast foot work, the small movements (which are much harder to do than big movements) and hip switches to help you deal with really difficult guard players.
Open guard is so dynamic especially with all the variations. Grips are essential. There are some crappy grips and then some super effective 'death' grips. Here Sophia McDermott shows you the grip she uses all the time and why it's so good. Give these drills a try!
